When did you first start CrossFitting? January 2011
Tell us about your sports & fitness background:
Didn’t play sports in High School and didn’t go to college.
How did you first get into CrossFit? How did it go?
I actually got started when my youngest son was in the military. My oldest grandson played soccer at that time and would need someone to practice with. Being at least 50 pounds overweight I could barely run across the yard which was not much help. Not knowing anything about fitness I researched on how guys my age got into shape. Crossfit came up and Eclipse was close to my house so I decided to check it out. When I went in there was guy in Army uniform so coincidence or not I decided to give it a shot. That first night I wasn’t sure I could even finish without a lot of encouragement I wouldn’t have. It was a very humbling experience and that is when I decided to stick it out for the first six weeks and it has been fun along the way.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health, and fitness since starting CrossFit?
Weight loss was the first thing that happened but then my blood pressure dropped and now I’m able to play with my grandkids until they get worn out.
What impact has CrossFit had on your life?
It has really helped me become a more disciplined. Everyone in here works hard. You meet so many good people and they all pull for each other. The other thing I have learned is even though it’s competitive the only one you need to beat is you. Ego is a thing you check at the door.
What is your advice for people getting started or thinking about starting CrossFit?
If you thinking about it just start. If I can anyone can. The work is hard but coming in the first day is really the hardest part. If you’ve already started be patient and stay with it. Those people you see doing muscle ups and lifting heavy didn’t get there overnight
What are your hobbies, interests, and other talents outside of CrossFit?
Family, fishing, the lake
