πŸ‹οΈβ€β™€οΈ October Athletes of the Month: Jason and Laurie Shultz

We are excited to feature our first couple and a power couple at that! From inside the gym killing every workout to competitions outside the gym! Jason and Laurie your dedication, grit and consistency are a great example of what it means to be an Eclipse athlete.

Outside of CrossFit, what are some of your favorite hobbies, talents, or skills?

We have several things that we like to do together, like disc golf, hiking, and woodworking as well as a few individual hobbies like baking, shooting, and crochet. We will let you figure out who likes what.

Get to Know Jason and Laurie

Do you have a nickname or something people tend to call you around the gym?
Nope, just Jason and Laurie

How did you find CrossFit Eclipse, and what led you to join?
We actually found Crossfit Eclipse back in 2011. It was the first year of the CrossFit Open. We needed a gym to validate our scores, and our friends, who knew Aaron and Josh, suggested we go to Eclipse. We went and loved it! With both of our boys in competitive gymnastics for the following decade, however, we never quite had the time to join. Both boys did Eclipse kids classes with Nate from time to time, but it wasn’t until they quit gymnastics in 2022 that we found ourselves with a schedule that would allow us to join.

What keeps you coming back to the gym?
The incredible community here! Being around others who want to push themselves and learn new things is the perfect atmosphere for both of us. After years of exercising in our garage whenever we could squeeze in a workout, having a place to go where we can suffer together with all of the other crazy members has been a welcome change!

Is there a motto, phrase, or piece of advice you try to live by, either inside or outside the gym?
Focus on what you can control. Consistently focusing on small incremental improvements can create significant results in all aspects of life.

What kind of music gets you pumped up during a workout?
Jason: Music is not really my thing. I don’t even hear it when I’m working out. Laurie: I love all kinds of music! Anything with a beat is great, bonus points if I know the lyrics!

Any fun facts or something most people at the gym might not know about you?
We met in Freshman Orientation class at Oklahoma State University. Jason grew up outside of Albuquerque, NM, and I grew up in Marlow, OK. Upon meeting, he told me that I have “sick biceps.” Being a small town Oklahoma girl, I was first confused and then flattered once he explained that it was a good thing. So, if you’re looking for true love, you might try that pick up line….it worked for us!
