When did you first start CrossFitting?
I started in April of 2017.
Tell us about your sports & fitness background.
I have no sports background at all. I was a band nerd and never participated in any type of athletic activities in school. I don’t have an athletic bone in my body. I have spent years attempting to go to the gym and enjoy it but never found anything I really loved. I tried running, yoga, and other various classes at the gym but was never able to stick with something consistently.
How did you first get into CrossFit? How did it go?
I first got into Crossfit due to a few friends of mine who live in other states posting about their experiences and changes they were seeing in their bodies. I had always been cautiously curious but too terrified to even think about trying it. I finally thought “if they can do this, maybe I can.” The first few weeks were very hard and I felt like my heart was going to explode in almost every workout… but I found that I liked it and kept coming back.
What sort of changes have you seen in your body, health, and fitness since starting CrossFit?
Physically, I have gone down almost two pants sizes, lost 15 lbs, gained muscle and lost body fat. I am lifting weights heavier than I ever imagined I was capable of and continue to get stronger every day. I have more energy throughout the day and I’m feeling less stress at work and at home. I also feel more confident about my body and myself overall.
What impact has CrossFit had on your life?
The community has had a huge impact on my life. Seeing people at various fitness levels encouraging and supporting each other is amazing and something I never would have experienced at a traditional gym. It has also taught me that I am stronger than I ever thought and I am capable of anything.
What is your advice for people getting started or thinking about starting CrossFit?
Just do it. Rip off the band-aid and take that first class. Everyone is excited that you are there and will support you in every step you take. You can actually do this even if you think you can’t. It will be hard, but it does get easier.
What are your hobbies, interests, and other talents outside of CrossFit?
I love to read, hike and spend time outdoors, and cook.
