This month we’re proud to recognize Brooke Houston as our Athlete of the Month! Since joining Eclipse, Brooke has embodied so much of what makes our community special—showing up, putting in the work, embracing the process, and encouraging those around her. After coming to Eclipse while recovering from a significant lower back injury, she has patiently worked her way back to lifting and is now doing pretty much everything again, with a few smart modifications and scales along the way. Her dedication, resilience, and positive attitude are an inspiration to everyone around her. Be sure to keep going and read all of Brooke’s fun facts!
Get to Know Brooke
Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do outside of the gym.
I am a wife to an incredible husband and a homeschooling mom of 7 amazing kiddos, ages 5–19. That keeps me pretty busy, but I love all things family! I love traveling, food, sunshine, sleep, nutrition, and health. I’m also super excited to begin a functional bodywork training program in January 2027!
Outside of CrossFit, what are some of your favorite hobbies, talents, or skills?
I don’t have many hobbies outside of my kids, honestly, although I do love puzzles or anything that requires me to work with my hands. I enjoy riding dirt bikes with my hubby, but only when it’s cool outside! My skills and talents would include cooking, teaching, and nurturing my kids because that’s what I love and what I’ve been doing for 20 years!
If you could create your own WOD, what would it be?
Upper body is my strength, so my ideal WOD would involve rowing, bench press, and kettlebell swings. Really, anything but thrusters!
Who do you love training next to and why?
While there are so many people that I love to work out with any day of the week, my absolute favorite is working out next to my husband. He’s my best friend and biggest encourager. He also helps to keep me in check and gently encourages me to rein it in when I get a little ambitious with the weight or any movement that I should probably modify. He’s been one of the most important factors in my healing and journey back to lifting again!
What’s your proudest moment or biggest accomplishment since joining?
I came to Eclipse after 10 years at another gym and was still recovering from a significant lower back injury that I thought would take me out of CrossFit forever. I was literally just biking every day when I came to the gym, but I wanted to move again. Aaron, Nate, and Darius have been so incredibly helpful and encouraging, and I’m back to doing pretty much everything again, although some things are still modified and scaled.
This past year has been a journey of patiently getting back to where I was, so no new accomplishments yet—but I PR’d my squat and my bench press in the last couple of weeks!
What’s your go-to pump-up song right now?
I don’t have a favorite song currently. I’m not picky about the music as long as it has a good beat and it’s not country! I don’t want to choose the music, but I don’t want to work out without it either, so I’m thankful for the beats masters in the gym every day!
Cardio or Lifting?
I do enjoy lifting a lot, but I love me some cardio! Tuesday and Thursday workouts are my favorites!
What’s your CrossFit spirit animal? (best describes you during a WOD)
Not sure, but my husband says my spirit animal is a bunny because I just keep going… 🤷‍♀️
Any fun facts or something most people at the gym might not know about you?
I’m pretty sure no one knows that I have a second-degree brown belt in karate!
What advice would you give someone who is considering starting at CrossFit Eclipse?
Just get in here and join us! It can be intimidating at first, but the community here is incredible. Just start where you are, keep showing up, and put the work in, and you’ll fall in love with it. So thankful for our Eclipse family!
