Athlete of the Month: February – Betsy

Celebrating Energy, Dedication, and Fun Shirts!

At CrossFit Eclipse, we believe in recognizing the incredible athletes who bring energy, positivity, and determination into the gym every day. This month, our coaching team has unanimously chosen Betsy as our February Athlete of the Month!

From the moment she walked through our doors, Betsy has been a force of nature—always welcoming, always encouraging, and always wearing the best workout shirts. But beyond her love for fun apparel, she’s an athlete who has put in the work, crushed personal goals, and made a lasting impact on our community.

The Journey to CrossFit Eclipse

Betsy first discovered CrossFit Eclipse through a coworker at a pivotal moment. Her previous gym was discontinuing her class time, and she didn’t want to lose momentum. Without hesitation, she called Aaron and showed up the very next day.

“I absolutely loved the community and encouragement from the coaches and other athletes, so I signed up immediately. No regrets!” she recalls.

The Mindset That Keeps Her Going

Betsy lives by a powerful quote from Craig Groeschel:
“All people end up somewhere in life, but few end up there on purpose.”

Her approach to fitness—and life—is intentional. She shows up, she puts in the work, and she embraces every challenge with determination and humor.

Pushing Boundaries & Surpassing Expectations

Betsy’s fitness journey is a testament to what consistency and dedication can accomplish.

When she first started functional fitness in February 2022, she had to do push-ups against the wall, step-out burpees with a bench, and could barely lift 2-3 lb weights. Fast forward to today, and she has:

✅ Lost 100 pounds since the beginning of her journey!
✅ Achieved her first double under (after spending 6-7 hours mastering them for a gym bingo challenge!)
✅ Built confidence in both lifting and life
✅ Developed stronger biceps (and isn’t afraid to show them off!)
✅ Inspired her previous gym friends to start barbell training
✅ Found her Gym Bestie, Maryam, who keeps her accountable—even when she’s not physically there!

Favorite Workouts & Gym Moments

Betsy thrives on workouts that challenge her but do not include the bike (#restingspinface 🤣). Lately, she’s been enjoying WODs that include kipping swings, as she’s working hard to master them.

She also loves Bring a Friend Week, especially when she gets her teen and adult kids to join her for a workout—just to watch them struggle. (“They were dying! I loved every minute of it.”)

Motivation & Advice for New Members

What keeps Betsy going? It’s the accountability and friendships she’s built in the gym. Even when Maryam isn’t there, she still hears her voice in her head telling her to add more weight—and she listens.

Her biggest piece of advice for newcomers?
“Take pictures and videos along the way—especially in the beginning. Even if your form isn’t perfect, or you don’t like how you look, document your progress. I wish I had done it sooner!”

What’s Next for Betsy?

She’s got big goals ahead! Right now, she’s working toward:

🔥 Toes-to-bar
🔥 A bodyweight pull-up (Currently rocking the blue and green bands, but making steady progress!)

And, of course, we need to officially create a WOD called “The Betsy”—featuring running, burpees, and pull-ups.

Final Thoughts

Betsy’s journey is nothing short of inspiring. She’s proof that showing up, putting in the work, and having a little fun along the way leads to incredible results.

We are so proud to have her as part of the CrossFit Eclipse family. If you see her around the gym, be sure to congratulate her on being February’s Athlete of the Month—and maybe ask where she gets her awesome workout shirts.

Congratulations, Betsy! #DidntGetHereByAccident
