JANUARY 2022: ROSS MCLAUGHLIN

What is your name or nickname?

Don’t really have one…it used to be Rossenecerous 😊

What are your favorite hobbies, talents, skills outside of CrossFit?

My time outside CrossFit is mainly spent entertaining a 7yr old boy. So I’ve spent the last few years getting much better at mountain biking and fishing. If it is just me unwinding, I love to watch movies or listen to music.

How did you find/get to CrossFit Eclipse?

After a knee surgery, I had tried to rehab/get back to shape on my own. After realizing it wasn’t going to happen, I checked out CrossFit Eclipse at the recommendation of a co-worker.

What motto or phrase do you live by?

Work Hard, Be Nice! But during a hard WOD, I’m just telling myself “Grab the F’in Bar”

What is your favorite music to listen to while WODing?

90s-early 2000s rap, preferably East Coast.

What is your favorite WOD?

Anything on a team. I like things where I can sprint and not have to worry about pace. Plus, I know I push myself more for others.

What is your favorite cheat Food(s)?

A great burger and a beer!

What is one thing you have done at CFE that you never thought you would do?

With the Level Method programming, I have come in on off days to retest movements to “Level Up”. Who decides to run a mile as fast as they can or see how much weight they can squat 20 times just for fun?

What motivates you through your CrossFit journey?

I love to set goals & I like competition. So it is fun to daily see how the morning classes have done & then strive to do more 😊

What results have you seen so far in coming to CFE?

Physically, I believe I’m in the best shape I’ve been in even though I’m now in my 40s, and probably more important health wise I’ve seen my cholesterol and several other markers go from high risk to in the good!

Do you have any special or successful CrossFit Eclipse memories/moments?

I competed in my first competition outside of the gym this year, with 3 fellow Eclipse members. It was awesome to have the motivation of training for the events & then pushing for each other. We took 2nd, but it was so fun chasing 1st in the final WOD!

What sort of life changes have you experienced because of CrossFit that you didn’t expect?

The biggest unexpected change is all the friendships I have built over the last 3 years. CFE

has definitely became my community, not just a place to work out.

What advice would you give to a newbie or someone just joining CrossFit Eclipse?

Set the right goals for you – both long-term & for each WOD, don’t worry about what others are doing, I truly believe at CFE everyone is just pulling for each other to succeed.

Current training Goals/PRs?

Currently, I’m focused on getting bigger & stronger. I’d like to add about 5lbs of muscle & be able to strict press my body weight.

If you could create a WOD and name it for yourself, what would it be?

20 Min AMRAP 5 deadlifts / 5 Bar Muscle Ups / 15 calorie row

Cowboys or Sooners? BOOMER!
