Get to Know Kelly
Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do outside of the gym.
I’m a retired army veteran, outside of the gym I work a good bit. I enjoy reading and going to movies. Not trying to sound pretentious but I enjoy old movies and like to see them on the big screen during revivals. I’m a geek at heart and love pop culture, and going to concerts for niche bands. I enjoy cooking especially trying new recipes and new places to eat. Training is a big part of my life and I can be fairly obsessive about it.
Outside of CrossFit, what are some of your favorite hobbies, talents, or skills?
I’m a geek at heart and love pop culture, comics, games and movies all day. I enjoy reading, cooking especially trying new recipes, going to concerts for niche bands, and finding new places to eat.
If you could create your own WOD, what would it be?
If I was going to create my own wod it would have either heavy cleans pull ups and machine cals.
Who do you love training next to and why?
There are a couple of people I really enjoy training next to: Bentz, Chad, Chris and Nic. While they are better athletes than me, it’s the attitude they bring with them that makes me want to be better.
What’s your proudest moment or biggest accomplishment since joining?
I think my best accomplishment since joining has been doing my first comp, the Tru Challenge. It was fun and made me dig inside myself.
What’s your go-to pump-up song right now?
My go to song right now would be Light by KMFDM it’s fast aggressive and groove laden. Anything Black Sabbath or early Metallica is also appreciated.
Cardio or Lifting?
Lifting.
What’s your CrossFit spirit animal? (Best describes you during a WOD)
My spirit animal would probably be a badger. Just too stubborn to give up or back down.
Any fun facts or something most people at the gym might not know about you?
I’m a geek at heart and can talk about comics, games, and movies all day (and apparently, I can’t count lol).
What advice would you give someone considering starting at CrossFit Eclipse?
The best advice is something I was told when I first started, put your ego to the side, go lighter. learn to do the movements correctly, and don’t worry about how much weight you’re moving. Everything will come with time.
Also, I want to thank Nate and Darius for all the help they’ve given me.
