Get to Know Tara

Tell us a little bit about yourself and what you do outside of the gym.
I’m a Claremore native and have lived in Tulsa for the past 10 years. I’ve also spent the last decade at Bank of Oklahoma, working in areas including Cybersecurity and Compliance. I enjoy anything outdoors, watching sports, and spending time with my family—Chris Tebo, Archer (4) and Calvin (1).

Outside of CrossFit, what are some of your favorite hobbies, talents, or skills?
I’d consider myself a “serial hobbyist” and have tried everything from bouldering and boxing to, most recently, cycling. Outside of fitness, I’m always on the hunt for the best chocolate chip cookie in town.

If you could create your own WOD, what would it be?  I enjoy workouts that include these movements: Run, Box Jump, Clean, Row. I would create a workout similar to “Redline” which we did in April. I loved the Max Cal Row, but would also enjoy Max Box Jumps.

“Redline”

6 x 2:00 AMRAP:

200m run

Max Cal Row in remaining time

*Rest 4:00 between AMRAPs

Who do you love training next to and why? I love training next to people who are moving at a similar or slightly faster pace—it pushes me to keep the intensity up and chase a few extra reps. Andrew McFarlin and Sarah O’Brien are two people I enjoy training alongside (and occasionally can keep up with!).

What’s your proudest moment or biggest accomplishment since joining?
Chest-to-bar pull-ups—being able to do them at all, and hitting more than 10 in a WOD. I honestly didn’t think I was capable, but with some coaching and guidance from Coach Nate, it finally clicked. Next up… butterfly pull-ups?

What’s your go-to pump-up song right now?
“Drop The World” – Lil Wayne, Eminem

Cardio or Lifting?
CARDIO, without a doubt. Playing soccer growing up and through college wired me to enjoy the suffering. Give me a grueling, endurance-heavy workout any day—that’s my CrossFit superpower.

What’s your Crossfit spirit animal? (best describes you during a wod)
Whatever animal volunteers to run extra laps for fun.

Any fun facts or something most people at the gym might now know about you?
One of my proudest athletic accomplishments is running my first—and only—marathon in under four hours (3:55:50, averaging a 9:00 pace).

What advice would you give someone who is considering starting at CrossFit Eclipse?
Do it—you won’t regret it. CrossFit Eclipse combines excellent coaching and an outstanding facility with a genuinely welcoming community. Whether you’re new or experienced,  you’ll feel comfortable, supported, and part of the group right away.
