We are thrilled to announce that Sally Mayo has been selected as our Athlete of the Month for November! Sally’s commitment, consistency, and extra effort have made her a standout at CrossFit Eclipse. Whether she’s arriving early, staying late, or putting in extra work, Sally’s dedication and drive to improve are an inspiration to both coaches and members. Her presence in the 9:30 am class embodies what our community is all about—encouraging, focused, and always ready to push herself to the next level.
- Do you have a nickname or something people tend to call you around the gym?
I have no nicknames – that I am aware of anyway.
- Outside of CrossFit, what are some of your favorite hobbies, talents, or skills?
My current hobby is working on getting us settled in our new house, which includes researching and designing a dry rock bed landscape. I also have a passion for 3-dimensional design and creating mosaics, and I’m excited to get back into mosaic work once we’re fully settled.
- How did you find CrossFit Eclipse, and what led you to join?
CrossFit Eclipse came highly recommended by another gym I attended when I lived in midtown. It took me a week or two to check it out, as I’m always a bit nervous about joining a new gym. One day, I passed by and decided to drop in on a whim—and I’m so glad I did!
- Is there a motto, phrase, or piece of advice you try to live by, either inside or outside the gym?
Give it everything you’ve got! Always walk away proud of what you’ve accomplished. ‘Your best’ may look different depending on personal and external circumstances—remember to give yourself grace.
- What kind of music gets you pumped up during a WOD? Any favorite artists or genres?
I listen to anything. Once a WOD starts, I don’t actually hear the music—I’m fully focused on my movements and form.
- What’s your favorite WOD (Workout of the Day), and why?
This is a tough one! I can’t say I have a favorite WOD. I try to see them all as fun, even though some include movements that aren’t my strength.
- When it’s time for a treat, what are your go-to cheat foods?
I consume little to no dairy—except for one indulgence: ice cream. With the nutritional challenge in place, there’s no ice cream in the house, so my new treat is protein bites with dark chocolate chips. It’s an easy, no-bake recipe that I’m trying to perfect.
- What’s one thing you’ve accomplished at CrossFit Eclipse that you never thought you would?
My form has improved so much! I attend the 9:30 a.m. class with Nate, and his attention to every detail has been unbelievably helpful.
- What keeps you motivated on your CrossFit journey, even on the tough days?
Just do it! Don’t overthink it. There are definitely days when I’m exhausted or have a mountain of work to get through, and skipping seems tempting. But I know I’ll feel a thousand times better—more mentally and emotionally balanced—once I walk out the door to continue my day.
- What changes or results have you noticed since joining CrossFit Eclipse?
I’ve noticed a slow, controlled, and consistent increase in my strength, conditioning, and mobility.
- Do you have any special memories or moments at CFE that stand out to you?
Yes, I do! I remember my first (and only) bar muscle-up during an open event—it was a complete surprise, and once up there I had no idea how to get down! I also have fond memories of watching others in the gym achieve a movement they thought they’d never be able to achieve, or were afraid to try, like a box jump, rope climb, or handstand against the wall.
- Have you experienced any life changes since starting CrossFit that you didn’t expect, either physically or mentally?
I honestly didn’t know what to expect from CrossFit—I didn’t even know what it was when I first agreed to try it. I was at a gym overseas when someone asked if I wanted to participate in this ‘new trend’ happening in the U.S. I said yes without having a clue what I was getting into. CrossFit turned out to be so much fun that I never stopped!
- If you could give one piece of advice to someone new at CrossFit Eclipse, what would it be?
Have fun! It’s a fantastic gym with exceptional coaches (and members) who meet you where you are in your fitness journey.
- What are your current training goals or personal records (PRs) you’re aiming to hit?
My personal goals are to keep improving my form and to increase the weight on my lifts. I’m determined to master toes-to-bar and get back my strict pull-ups and push-ups!
- If you could design your own WOD and name it after yourself, what would it include?
This is a tough one! The WOD would include some of my favorite moves such as rowing, kettlebell work, dumbbell snatches, power cleans, v-ups, and wall walks.
- Cowboys or Sooners? (Feel free to explain your choice!)
I don’t have a favorite team, but I do love the color of sunset orange.
- Is there anything else you’d like the community to know about you or your fitness journey?
I can’t stress enough the importance of stretching before and after working out. Just 15–20 minutes can make a world of difference. I promise, if you’re consistent, you’ll see the benefits.
